This 6-week course is for adults who would like to learn to throw on the wheel and is suitable for complete beginners, or those with some basic throwing experience. It is a perfect course for anyone who has a wheel at home and doesn't know where to start!

The 6-week block will get you started and comfortable with the basics of throwing on the wheel including preparing and working with clay, learning to centre, throwing basic shapes and removing your pot from the wheel. During the course, you will also learn how to pull a handle for a mug, how to turn the bases of your pieces to refine the shape and how to turn foot rings on the bases of pots. We will also look at how to reclaim clay for re-use, health and safety in the studio and cleaning the wheel (which you will do after each session!)

The focus during the course is on learning the technique of throwing, rather than creating a whole shelf of wobbly pots, therefore you can keep your best 6 pieces for firing at the end of the course. Your chosen pieces will be bisque fired in the kiln for you after week 5. We will then dedicate Week 6 to glazing your pieces which will be fired in the kiln for you and ready to collect in 2-3 weeks from the last lesson.

The course has a maximum of 6 participants, so there is the opportunity for lots of 1:1 tuition and hands-on tutor assistance.

Cost
£300 per person for the 6-week block including all tuition, clay, glazes, equipment, firing in the kiln of 5 pieces. Additional pieces can be kept and glazed at a cost of £5 per pot. Please ensure that you can make all of the sessions before booking, as catch-up sessions are not available.
