Ceramic Masterclasses
Bourn Pottery is pleased to offer an occasional series of Ceramic Masterclasses taught either by Sara Wilkinson, or in conjunction with a variety of other ceramic experts. These classes are an opportunity to work with an artist who specialises in a particular area of ceramics and to really learn from the master!

The Green Man is an ancient symbol that represents the cycle of life, death, and rebirth, and is seen as a link between the human and natural worlds. This 1-day pottery workshop will guide you through the process of making and decorating your own Green Man, Green Woman or person.

The day will begin at 10:00 with a short walk around the local countryside and church yard gathering interesting leaves and foliage to include on your green man. We will then return to the studio for coffee and biscuits and go through out finds. The group will then make the structural back plate for the head from stoneware clay and set aside to firm up. The collected leaves and foliage will be pressed into clay to make a variety of leaf shapes which will be used to build up on the head shape. You will add eyes, nose, lips and any other features that you like. Artistic experimentation is very much encouraged!
We will spend the afternoon assembling the clay leaves and features and fixing in place on the back plate. A variety of underglazes, oxides, slips and glazes will be available to decorate the final piece.

Your green man will be dried for 2-3 weeks before being fired in the kiln for you. Once fired, it will be suitable for indoor or outdoor display.

The course has a maximum of 6 participants, so there is the opportunity for lots of 1:1 tuition and hands-on tutor assistance.

Cost
£200 per person for the day including all tuition, clay, glazes, equipment and firing in the kiln. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided, but please bring a packed lunch.
